Your Voice Matters: Shaping Accessible Education for Every Child
Every child deserves the chance to thrive in school. Local authorities have a legal duty under The Equality Act 2010 to prepare an Accessibility Strategy for the maintained schools and settings they oversee.
We know that parents and carers have invaluable insights into what works, and what doesn’t, when it comes to supporting children’s learning and wellbeing. We are inviting you to join our pre-consultation event, where your experiences and ideas will help shape the future of accessibility in our schools, nurseries, and early years settings.
Under The Equality Act 2010, all local authorities must prepare an Accessibility Strategy for the schools they oversee. This strategy is about making education fully accessible by:
- Curriculum: Ensuring all children can participate in learning, with the right support in place.
- Environment: Creating school environments that are welcoming and accessible, so every child feels safe, included, and able to thrive.
- Information: Improving how information is shared, making sure families and children receive the support they need in ways that work for them.
This strategy sits alongside key policies that shape education and support services, including:
- The Early Help Partnership Strategy (2025-2030), bringing together support for families, set to launch later this year..
- The Education Strategy (2022-2027), focused on creating the best possible learning experiences.
- The SEND and Inclusion Strategy (2025-2030), ensuring every child’s needs are met.
With the current Accessibility Strategy due to be updated, this is a crucial time to ensure your voice is heard. We want to understand the challenges you face and work with you to remove barriers, so that every child, no matter their abilities or circumstances, has the opportunities they deserve.
We are running two open online events on 23rd June at 6pm and 26th June at 12.30pm.
