Shout Out for SEND (SOfS)
is a youth voice programme in Buckinghamshire that empowers children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) to share their experiences and influence local decision-making.
It is part of the Youth Participation Strategy and connects directly with the SEND Partnership Board, ensuring young people’s voices shape policies and services. SOfS runs various activities, including:
- Monthly meetings with young people who volunteer as Shout Out for SEND Reps.
- School workshops to gather feedback and ideas.
- Youth interview panels where young people help assess professionals working in SEND services.
- Local forums called Shout Out for SEND: Get Active! to encourage open discussions.
- Public speaking and training opportunities at local and national events.
SOfS also created the Children and Young People’s Plan, which outlines priorities for improving SEND services in Buckinghamshire. The programme ensures young people’s perspectives are heard by council leaders, schools, and service providers, helping to shape a more inclusive future.
